Are you one of those people who wakes up in the morning feeling like a zombie? And unless they have a coffee every 2-3 hours, has the energy levels of an empty battery? Need to improve energy levels?
This may seem like a joke, but for some people this a sad and harsh reality.
All of us wish they were that person who seems like they are being drip fed red cordial 24 hours a day, yet many of us struggle to maintain consistent clean energy levels.
Having energy makes everything in life easier, allowing you to have fun in your relationships, get loads of work done and have energy to spare to hit the gym and work on your sexy bod.
Read below to put a stop to being a sleepy head and start being an annoyingly happy & energetic person.
1.Look after your Emotions
Ever watched a motivational video then afterwards have tonnes of energy and you manage to get a heap of stuff done?
That’s the power of positive emotions.
When we feel purposeless, de-motivated sad and depressed it influences our energy levels.
Some quick ways to increase motivation and positive emotion levels include:
- Setting goals and action plans to achieve those goals. (Make sure they’re things you’d love to do!)
- Plan in more fun things to look forward to in your calendar
- Watch inspiring and motivational videos
- Get up and do something constructive such as clean your room or make your bed
- Thinking of/writing down things you are grateful for in your life
- Take life less seriously, let your hair down and have some more fun
- Get an accountability buddy or a coach
2.Reduce your workload
Sometimes we’re looking for ways to increase our energy when in reality, we should be conserving our energy.
A big part of western culture is working hard and getting a lot of stuff done, this however can be stressful and draining.
Pay attention to how much time you’re spending at work, and even when you’re at home, how much time you spend thinking about work.
Work shouldn’t rule your life. So make sure you find balance between working and having fun.
Okay, so this may seem obvious, but for those of you who don’t exercise, you definitely need to give it a try.
You may have heard of the term ‘the runners high.’
Exercising intensely releases chemicals that literally make you feel high, and multiple studies have shown exercise can be as effective as anti-depressants for helping people with depression.
Whether it’s lifting weights, playing a game of sport, playing with your kids or even having a dance in your living room – try to find more opportunities to move around as it’s vital for health, well being and energy. Your body will thank you and improve energy levels.
Just do it!
4.Practice Intermittent Fasting
Fasting is when we don’t consume foods, for an extended period of time.
And yes.. I know this may sound crazy & counter intuitive, as we know food gives us energy.
But when we continually consume carbohydrates and sugars on a regular basis, our body gets less effective at using them. This can lead to spikes and crashes in energy whenever we eat food, which can create a vicious cycle of ups and downs and over-eating.
Fasting gives our cells a break from carbs for a while which allows the body to become more energy efficient once again.
A popular intermittent fasting protocol is known as the 16:8 and it’s when you eat between 12pm and 8pm, and fast in the mornings. This means you skip breakfast, giving your body a break from carbs, then you can enjoy lunch, dinner and snacks in between. It is another great way to increase energy levels.
5.Cycle Caffeine Usage
People love coffee so much that they’ll stab you for a cup of it.
There are mixed fews on coffee consumption and it’s argued whether it’s good or bad for you.
What we do know, is that with continued coffee/caffeine consumption our body builds up a tolerance and eventually we no longer feel the energy rush we once did.
I suggest limiting coffee use to when you really need it, or having a 3-7 day break once you notice your coffees are no longer giving you that nice, warm energy feeling they normally would.
In other words, use coffee intentionally, as opposed to drinking it out of habit just because you like it. This will help to improve energy levels.
TIME TO TAKE ACTION
So if you do have low energy, I seriously recommend you make note of any of the things that stood out to you in this article and make sure you action them ASAP.
It’s important to have energy to feel good and live the life that you want, so don’t hold yourself back any longer and take some action!
